Born in White Plains, New York, and raised in Bogotá, Colombia, Dr. Merizalde was often ill as a child. Through the then necessary treatments, he experienced firsthand the benefits and limitations of conventional medicine.
In medical school, he encountered patients facing similar challenges. These individuals were on long-term treatment regimens but were experiencing suboptimal results in spite of their investment of time, effort, and money, including medicinal side-effects and taking a medicine to treat the effects of another.
Dr. Merizalde sought another way. He believed that one of the failings of traditional medicine was its narrow focus in approaching patient care. Instead of prescribing remedies for an individual condition, Dr. Merizalde concluded that there was value in exploring a more holistic approach to care.
This is how he came to embrace integrative care. In his practice, Dr. Merizalde incorporates various treatment modalities, from mind-body medicine to nutritional, functional medicine, herbal medicine and homeopathy, in addition to traditional treatment, where appropriate.
By considering each patient as a spiritual, emotional, social, and physical being—each entirely unique—Dr. Merizalde adopts individualized treatment plans integrating the type of care best suited to the patient at hand.

A vocal advocate for the practice of integrative care and homeopathy, Dr. Merizalde has written extensively on the topic. He is an active member of various world-renowned integrative care and homeopathic institutions, including the International Homeopathic Medical League, the American Institute of Homeopathy, and the Department of Integrative Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University.

Not only does it leave people dissatisfied and not any closer to true health, which is not just the … absence of disease, conventional medical practices are costly, cause more side effects, and harms the planet (i.e: water pollution with eliminated and discarded drugs).
